About Jeff Dickson
I am an artist! Always have been and always will be! Most artists will tell you that they really don't have a choice in the matter and the same holds true for me. I discovered a natural ability to draw and paint at an early age, and further refined my craft by attending the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, as well as studying privately with many prominent artists throughout the country.
Painting outdoors directly from nature is called "plein air" painting and when literally translated it means "open air" in French. For many reasons, it's the method of painting which most appeals to me, but the main reason is the sense of truth which a painting exudes when executed outdoors. The lighting which nature provides doesn't afford an artist the time to over analyze his subject matter. The fleeting essence of sunlight demands that the artist paint very quickly and deliberately in hopes of capturing an impression of the subject. What we end up with is a freshness which simply can't be duplicated in the studio. Universally, artists have found these quick-work collectibles a deeply satisfying way to share their work - in a more affordable way.
I have exhibited my artwork in shows and galleries but the majority of sales comes from commission pieces, which are in private collections all across the country. I have had the good fortune to be able to travel and live throughout the United States, including Georgia, Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and Illinois, but the "coulees" of Southwest Wisconsin is where I have called home for the past 21 years.
